— Company reaches milestone of more than a half-million dollars in scholarships granted to 469 graduating seniors from Bellport, Longwood, and Patchogue-Medford high schools since the program’s inception —

YAPHANK, NY — Caithness Long Island, LLC, the owner and operator of Long Island’s cleanest, most energy-efficient, and water-conserving power-generating plant, recently awarded $25,300 in scholarships to 26 graduating high school students who plan to further their studies in science, engineering, or environmental studies at the college or university level. Since its inception in 2007, the Caithness Long Island Energy Center Scholarship has been a pillar of support, providing more than $500,000 in financial aid to 469 graduating seniors from Bellport, Longwood, and Patchogue-Medford high schools. These schools are in proximity to the Caithness Long Island Energy Center, a 350-megawatt (MW) combined-cycle, natural gas-fired power-generating station in Yaphank that generates more than 22 percent of Long Island’s power.

The Caithness Long Island Energy Center Scholarship program demonstrates the company’s unwavering commitment to education. In addition to scholarships, Caithness offers several educational initiatives, including internships, a job-shadowing program, and plant tours. These programs teach local high school students about modern power-generation technology and its relationship to the environment, providing them with the opportunity to explore careers in energy generation, environmental science, and related fields.

Offering best wishes to the graduates of the Class of 2025, Ross D. Ain, President of Caithness Long Island, LLC, stated, “Congratulations on your success in completing your high school education. In your high school years, there have been rapid changes. You have excelled and demonstrated that you are prepared for your college years and beyond.” Mr. Ain added, “All of us at Caithness Long Island, LLC wish you the very best as you embark on this next important milestone in your life. Take pride in your achievement and all the best to you in college and beyond.”

The Caithness Long Island Energy Center, with its highly efficient, technologically advanced combined-cycle power-generating technology and clean natural gas operation, is significantly contributing to the reduction of the region’s carbon footprint. The plant’s energy production, which is far more efficient than any other facility of its kind on Long Island, is not just essential for helping New York State achieve its aggressive greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals but also for promoting a greener, more sustainable future.

The Caithness Long Island Energy Center Scholarships are awarded based on students’ academic achievements and their intended fields of study post-high school graduation, with recipients being chosen by the recommendation of their teachers and guidance counselors. The scholarships were presented at each school’s award night ceremonies, held earlier this month. In addition to the company’s educational initiatives, Caithness supports several environmental organizations, nonprofit groups, and community-based activities throughout the Town of Brookhaven and across Long Island.
